Just been out harvesting for the farm shop. It’s Just been out harvesting for the farm shop. It’s a beautiful day and absolutely freezing - my hands have just thawed out enough to post a few pics. The cold will have enhanced the flavour of our kale, cavalo nero, Kalettes and sprouts and we have loads of salad and lettuce slowly growing in the l greenhouses. Even the odd pot marigold has survived. #organic #farmshop #localfood

Also our first kalettes of the year, strings of our own onions, and loads of greens and root veg. Oh, and some amazing fresh Mazafati dates.

Hampshire grown Christmas trees available from the Hampshire grown Christmas trees available from the farm shop from today. We’ve mainly got Nordman Firs which are “no drop” and a few Norway Spruces too. The farm shop is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 9:00am - 6:00pm.

Just writing the annual newsletter and thought, as Just writing the annual newsletter and thought, as I’d mentioned the wildlife on the farm I better include some pictures. 

The chicks were in a nest built in an old metal tube leant against the workshop. A bit of a squeeze but they all fledged successfully in the middle of May not long after this photo. 

The barn owl photo was taken last week. It is a curious youngster that has recently fledged (we think) so the adults left the breeding a bit late or possibly bred twice this year.
We sowed some new wildflower beds this year and th We sowed some new wildflower beds this year and they’ve really taken off. Went to save some seed from them to spread around the field margins and found that loads of the yellow trefoil seed is so vigorous (and it’s been so wet) that it’s already sprouting on the stem. Lots more trefoil next year by the looks of it 👍.
Almost finished with all the big harvest jobs this Almost finished with all the big harvest jobs this year - potatoes are in the store with the carrots and the onions and pumpkins are curing in the sun. Just a few squash and beetroot to gather in now, before frosts hit. It’s a really good time of year to visit the shop as we have most of our summer crops including tomatoes, aubergines and peppers, but also all of our autumn/winter crops too including sacks of potatoes, celeriac, delicata and Marina Di Chioggia squash …… #organic #localfood #shoplocal #farmshop
Some beautiful freshly pulled leeks going into the Some beautiful freshly pulled leeks going into the boxes today. We’ve left the tops on because they are such good quality and great for cooking with - don’t chuck them away! The tops are less sweet than the base but packed full of flavour.

We also have order forms available at the shop or on our website if you want to put in an order for Christmas. Or just come to the shop - usual opening hours apart from Christmas Eve (Saturday 24th) when we will shut at 2:00pm.

Cooking up our first Marina di Chioggia squash of Cooking up our first Marina di Chioggia squash of the year. This is probably my favourite squash along with the Crown Prince and Delicata that grew really well this year.  It’s a bit of a beast to get into but worth the struggle. Gonna knock this one up into some risotto and attempt a big bunch of tortelli di zucca for the freezer. Still got a few of these left at the shop and loads of other great squash too. #organic #farmshop #localfood #eatlocal #shoplocal
